Paar Sir:
Tie era writing to advise you that, effactiys this date, Monsanto .will no longer sell the *rharainol FA 3er.ieo of heat transfer fluids. rirnia important decision by Monsanto1a nanascmsnt has been carefully considered.
The Thorainol FR corios of fluids contain polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). As vra have previously advised you. studies indicate ?C3s nay be accumulating in the environment. In some instances, ?CBs have been found in food or in tb<; food chain. An article by Carl C-. Gustafson of the Federal Viator Quality Administration appearing in "Environmental Science & 'Technology11 and dealing with this subject ic attached for your information.
Because of Mon^anto^ concern ovor this problem, v;e have discon tinued sales of ?CEs v;hore the usage was lr. so-called "open systems." Ue have discontinued sales of Thensinol0' FA materials where the usage would bo in rood pr-ccsaaing applications. In addition, vo have encouraged Ihennlnoi0 FA fluid custcaera to switch to other materials.
As a result of these efforts, many of our heat transfer fluid cuEtcoiars huva switched fron Thominol0 FA scries fluids to other caterials or systems.
Our action in discontinuing silos x'er use- in heat transfer systems
has boon tolxcn because of tha problems wnich nay arise should tnero
occur acciciintal iuabage of
from suen systems. ;/o believe
this actlcn is in the best interest of all our customers uno have
continued using those iratorlalu In boat transfer applications.
