The study was initiated to obtain preliminary survey data to define any problem exposure situations. The study . included area and personnel samples obtained at two different flow rates. The sampling period was January and February, 1978. The asbestos samples were assayed by E. I. Du Pont - Marshall Laboratory (AIHA approved) by George W. Hiddemen. The data (Table I) show only one job in the Central Shop which exceeded the two fiber per cubic moter OSHA standard. Cd The Shops (samples 31 and 32) are trying to replace the asbestos covered heating wires used for heat treatment of pipes. If no replacement is obtained, covering with other heat resistant fabric will be reviewed. Sampling will confirm the reduction of exposure to asbestos fibers. The hold yard (samples 35 and 36) is below the standard but resampling will be conducted to better define the level. Both the above operations require respiratory protection so no actual personnel exposure occurred. The data supporting all these tests are recorded in Victoria Plant databooks VE 15951, 17058, 17064, 17068, and 17074.
