Yalcinkaya V " V _/* date October 18, 1979 subject OSHA Investigation on 10-16-79 } ) Gentlemen: On October 16, 1979, Mr. Richard Miller, OSHA Industrial Hygienist, conducted an investigation into potential employee exposure associated with the changing of Ethylene Oxide (t0) filter cartridges at the loading rack. Bldg. 19. This investigation was prearranged as Mr. Miller had requested notification of the filter change during a previous visit this year. An opening conference was held with Messrs. Miller, Cunningham, Munn, Martin, and Ms. Yalcinkaya in which it was restated that this investigation was asso ciated with the NIOSH - OSHA brain tumor survey. Mr. Miller also stated that this visit would probably conclude OSHA's involvement in that joint survey. At the conclusion of the brief meeting we moved to the E0 loading rack and were met by Mr. 0. C. Jones. An eight-hour breathing zone sample was taken on the product handler assigned to the E0 rack and short-term breathing zone samples were collected on the two riggers who renewed the filter elements. Duplicate samples of all OSHA monitoring were collected by the I. H. Department. Pictures were taken by Mr. M. E. Montague at Mr. Miller's request.of the filter changing operation in order to demonstrate the procedures and protective equipment utilized by the employees. The prints will be reviewed and provided to Mr. Miller when they are available. Short-term breathing zone samples were also collected for the two pipe fitters who removed the slip-blinds from the E0 filter system. UCTC 21286 Mr. J. H. Barrett, et al October 18, 1979 Page 2 After removal of all sampling equipment, Mr. Miller informed us again that this would probably conclude OSHA's activity in the NIOSH brain tumor investigation and that a closing conference would be offered at a later date.
