This information is tabulated in two formats. The first table is by unit, which is how the information was received. For the second table, all fairly pure component, or component plus streams were compiled and alphabetized. These two tables show that the majority of gaskets in use contain asbestos. If a ban of asbestos gaskets does occur, it will be a large undertaking to make the change. Bay City plant is planning to test aramid-based sheet gaskets in nine locations in seven units and various non-asbestos spiral wound gaskets in three locations in three units. Please keep me informed about the planning and completion of gasket tests. Sharing the information should prevent a duplication of effort in characterizing the chemical resistance of non-asbestos gaskets.
