Hussey, MD, Direct or Scient if ic Publ icat ions Division Dear Dr. Kehoe: As you have seen from Katharine Boucot's letter of July 6 she has forwarded to me several manuscripts from the International Lead Conference. I am sure she had some type of understanding with you as to how many manuscripts she might be able to handle in the Archives. As she has written you we are confronted by the fact that these papers cannot appear together as a special issue. As Katharine indicated in her letter to you and as Hugh Hussey in dicated to me in a conference in Chicago decisions as to published material after January 1 will have to be at my discretion. I am naturally most loath to embarrass either you or Katharine in any fashion, but I have strong reservations about one paper, that by Dr. Beritic. Perhaps I have not fully appreciated the significance of this piece of work and you may be able to provide me with some information about its meaning that skips me at the moment. Perhaps my decision may be made a little easier if I know if any more papers from this conference will be submitted. If there are a number of other manuscripts yet to come in I shall withhold judg ment altogether at present unless you think there is very strong reasons for accepting Dr. Beritic1s paper. I realize this creates a certain amount of embarassment for all of us and appologize for having to start what I hope will be a very agreeable association with you by raising a question about this particular paper.
