TEST ORGANISM: Acartiatonsa(Dana),supphed by theMarine BiologicalLaboratory, Universityof Copenhagen.
CULTIVATION:
The testorganisms were suppliedas eggs,and were cultivateidnaccordance with the"ParisCommission -Ring TestProtocol"(VKI). Large copepodites and adultswere used in thetest.
PREPARATIONS:

The testorganisms were supplied as adults(4-8 irimin size)and were held in aerated seawater at 15'C. A small amount of naturalseaweed was used for feeding.
PREPARATION:
Natural seawater (salinity:34 %o) from an unpolluted sitein BAorden outside Stavanger was used for dilution water. Sediment collected at an unpolluted site was used for preparing testsediments. The sediment is a muddy sand and was analysed for organic content and proportion siltfor each test.
Each testconcentration was prepared by adding the product in 600 grams of damp sediment in a plasticbucket. 200 ml of seawater was added and the bucket was shaken for 3 hours. The sediment was divided intothreebeakers, 400 ml of seawater was added to each, and the beakers were aeratedover night. 10 animals were then randomly selectedforeach beaker. A sample of the damp sediment was analysed for water content,and allconcentrationsare calculatedas mg kg- sediment dry weight.
INCUBATION:
The testwas run in glass containers(600 ml) each containing 200 g of test sediment, app. 400 ml of seawater and 10 animals, 3 replicatesfor each concentration. ne beakers were kept under continuous aerationat a temperature of 15 :t I'C. pH and oxygen measurements were performed as indicated on the data sheet.
