The other thing I got on behalf of all of us is response of complete appreciation and full cooperation toward Monsanto's efforts to relieve the industry of the PCB pollution problem via Aroclor 1242B. None rebelled on being told that Aroclor 1242B cost would be somewhat higher. All felt need to get away from pesky scrap handling problems and moreover the need for a suitably blodegradable Aroclor to solve the problem of spent or failed capacitor disposal in normal dumps. Some even foresaw other benefits, such as having a Government approved biodegradable Aroclor to thwart competitive influx of Japanese or other foreign capacitors into the US markets. By their every nature capacitor life tests take 4 to 6 months to complete. Accordingly we cannot expect approval of Aroclor 1242B to arrive from the industry before the late fall or winter of 1970. However, we will be given the benefit of interim reports of findings. Several commercial things worthy of note that arose in my phone conversations include: a) Sangamo, up to recently made only power capacitors. Recently they began to make motor-run units. Their plant manager Jules Hydrlch said that the market for new air-conditioners doubled in the past 5 years and that the "after" market is even stronger.
