I. PURPOSE
This procedure outlines the W. 0. Krummrlch Plant policy on wearing of minimum eye protection (safety spectacles), describes the manner in which this protection is secured, and defines the extent to which the plant management subsidizes this program.
II. POLICY
A. All Monsanto employees are required to wear safety spectacles while in the plant except for the times work is being performed that requires more complete protection. At such times the pro tection required for the particular hazard shall be worn.
B. Plain safety spectacles will be furnished by the company.
C. Prescription safety spectacles will be furnished to those employees requiring corrective lenses upon presentation of a prescription from their optometrist Indicating such need.
D. It is not lntneded that the company furnish spectacles suited only for special or part-time usage, such as reading or sun glasses.
III. RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Each supervisor is responsible for issuing a storeroom requisition to each of his employees for a pair of safety spectacles, for informing him of the plant policy on their use and for follow up to insure compliance with the stated policy.

B. The employee la responsible for securing a pair of safety spectacles and for wearing them at all times when he iy the plant.
C. The Safety Department is responsible for maintaining an adequate supply of plain safety spectacles and for fitting them to the individual employee, for ordering prescription spectacles upon presentation of prescription by employee, and for scheduling periodic visits by optometrist to adjust spectacles.
IV. PROCEDURE
A. An employee needing plain safety glasses will get a storeroom requisition from his foreman and present it at the Safety Office.
B. The Safety Department secretary will issue the spectacles to the employee, making the minor adjustments necessary to insure proper fitting.
C. Employees needing prescription safety spectacles will present their prescriptions (with necessary measurements) to the Safety Office. To insure that necessary information is obtained, forms for the optometrist to fill out are avail able in the Safety Office and should be picked up prior to the examination. At the time of ordering spectacles the type of temples and nose pads should be Indicated.
D. The Safety Department secretary will send the prescription to the Optical Company to be filled. Upon receipt of the spectacles she will notify the employee that they are available
E. It is strongly urged that the employee return to his optometrist to have his spectacles properly fitted. As long as an optometrist calls at the plant on'a monthly basis, subsequent checking and adjustment can be done by him.
F. Coat of repair or replacement of damaged spectacles will b* authorized by the foreman after consultation with the Safety Director to insure uniform policy. Replacement will be contingent upon return of old spectacles.
