Process Description: The Spectrum Metal Recycling facility is a scrapyard that accepts various post-consumer and industrial ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The facility accepts white goods, appliances, and refrigeration components. The facility sorts light iron, aluminum, copper scrap, and other metals into piles of like material before loading into trucks for transport to a metal shredding or nonferrous metal recycling facility. Staff Interview: Spectrum Metal Recycling is owned by EMR Group, which operates many similar yards nationally and internationally. The facility is a mostly non-ferrous metal recycling yard and accepts very few appliances and ferrous items. For the appliances that it does accept the facility requires all customers to sign a verification statement. The verification statement is provided to the facility by its corporate parent company. TOUR INFORMATION EPA toured the facility: Yes Data Collected and Observations: Several appliances, including a refrigerator and an air conditioning unit were observed in the ferrous scrap pile. There were not many ferrous materials on site at the time of the inspection. Photos and/or Videos: were taken during the inspection. A photo log is contained in Appendix A.
