The validation of modified EPA Method #107 for the analysis of VCM will be completed by 18, March 1988. The steps for method validation are detailed in the attached memo from J. H. Phillips to P. U. Usinowcz dated 3 September 1987. The experimental work is being completed by C. E. Shoop of CRSD-Analytical. Chris broadened the experimental approach after discussions with M. Bonin, D, Hoffman and K. Broxson to include the evaluation of a Carbowax 20M + 0.8% KOH packed column to improve the separation. The experimental work will be completed according to the following schedule which has been confirmed by J. H. Frost.
Completion. Hate 7 March 1988
8 March 1988 9 March 1988
10 March 1988 11 March 1988
Experimental. Task
Run external standards and spikes to demonstrate 100% recovery of VCM using the Carbowax SOM + 0.8% KOH column. Requires preparation of a standard solution of VCM.
Demonstrate improved separation using the Carbowax column described above.
Demonstrate interference of methanol when Porapak Q is used as a packing. Run GC-MS analysis of wastewater slurry and resin samples to demonstrate GC peak identities.
Investigate the LLD and accuracy for VCM by spiking into wastewater samples that were determined to contain no VCM.
Demonstrate adequate precision of the modified method. Run wastewater, slurry and resin samples on HS-100 using proposed column.

Once the experimental work has been completed I will evaluate the data and prepare a letter requesting method modification to the EPA region IV. Letters will also be drafted for submission to the Florida DER and Kentucky DEP. My data review and document drafts will be completed no later than five working days after the experimental work has been completed. After
review by yourself, M. Bonin, B. Helms and P. Usinowicz the documents will
be submitted to the appropriate authorities.
