Extra cost is involved in making any despatch - every bag has'to be branded and separately numbered* 6u However, the bag weight variation Is serious and we have noted your remarks about "poor supervision" and "serious consequences" and have passed a copy of the letter on to the Mill Superintendent* We set t u out below his comments* v A considerable amount of effort has been expended over many months in an endeavour to stabilise bag weights as produced by the bag press* .1A * l` _ rA 0m?6urrent practice is to daily spot weigh 12 bags at random of which a record is kept in the laboratory* These checks show that there is a reasonably constant 2% variation from 100 lbs. nett fibre weight. In addition to this check, one bag in 20 is weighed contin uously from production each shift and weight recorded, and also spot checks by mill foreman, quality control officer and shift supervisors. We are at the moment pleased with the consistent good results from the bag press from the point of view of constant weight, but on receipt of correspondence to the effect that shipments have averaged only 99 lbs., we have raised the bag weight here accordingly. A moisture content analysis has been made of a number of samples from shipment and the moisture content has been 1.25C to 1.6. We submit that there could be a reduction in this moisture content in transit, which might be work considering in the contract.
