Papageorge General Offices On 10-29-70, the Enviro-Chem St. Charles incinerator site was visited to obtain samples for PCB analysis. Four samples were taken; pond water at the scrubber exit pipe, sediment a short distance from the scrubber exi-t pipe, and some of the most recent char residue produced. These samples were returned to our South Second Street : laboratories and analyzed as outlined in Analytical Chemistry Method No. 69-13. The water samples contained .-- 8 ppb . apparent PCB's, the sediment ~-26 ppb apparent PCB's, and the char ^99-140 ppb apparent PCB's. Since the EC chromatograms of the extracts were not identical to any manufactured Aroclor, the above data is reported as "apparent" PCB's. Hjweter, the extracted compounds did survive the chemical and liquid chromatographic clean up procedures, as do the PCB's.
