REPLACEMENT OF ASBESTOS CONTAINING MATERIALS
As an ongoing effort to eliminate all possible incoming sources of asbestos containing materials due to the known latent health effects, we are soliciting your help by bringing this matter to the attention of each of the respective Engineering Departments who are responsible for authorizing these materials in the various manufacturing specifications.
Usage of asbestos containing material at BHTI includes such items as gasket fittings, firewall insulation, upholstery materials, chafe straps - to name a few. Aside from the obvious potential health problems associated with asbestos, many of these items are no longer available through asbestos manufacturers and vendors, or are soon to be phased out, thereby necessitating the need for alternative materials to be found.
The Industrial Safety and Hygiene Department encourages all Engineering Departments to work closely with Procurement in finding suitable replacement materials and to start the process of eliminating those asbestos containing materials currently in use.
Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated. If I may be of assistance in any way, please advise.
