YLTMarch 28, 1957 Dear Dr. McCormick: Reference is made to your letter of March 11 and previous correspondence concerning the resinous material, Geon Resin 44CKd, which is proposed for use as an ingredient of a coating for paper in which meat food product will be wrapped or as an ingredient of a coating for aluminum containers far meat food product. A preparation of the composition giveiis acceptable to this office from the standpoint of toxicity for contact with meat food product. Paper coated with an otherwise suitable resinous material containing 25$ of Geon Resin 4hCE8 may be used in official establishments far wrapping meat and meat food product. Available data is not sufficiently comprehensive to enable us to evaluate the suitability of Geon Resin VUGX8 as a coating for liminiim containers in which meat food product will be cooked or heated. Dear Mr. Philbecki This is with further reference to your letter of March 5, 1957* relating to Qeon UU0X8. As I discussed with you at our conference in Washington, on March 6, this material will be sold by the B. F. Goodrich Chemical Company as a dry unplasticised powder. It may be formulated by the user with other materials, such as resins or plasticisers, for his own food packaging applications. The primary use of this product for food packaging purposes is to increase the adhesion of- the coating to the container and it will have its largest use in the paper coat ing field. Before making a statement with regard to the acceptability of the resin for use on containers for product prepared under our supervision, it will be necessary that ve have more definite information concerning the proposed manner of use. Since the resin is unplasticized, ve wish to knov if the addition of plasticizer or other additive by the ultimate user will be necessary before application to the containers.
