Mr. E. W. Webb, President, Ethyl Gasoline Corporation, 405 Lexington Avenue, NewYork City, N. Y.
Dear Si r:
I 1I vs. Jenney Mfg. Co.
You will probably recall there was pendin^^ithis State a claim Dor compensation for the ^d-mth of one^mmBHfe an . employee of the Jenney Mfg. Company of Boston. It was claimed that the death o f^ B B u s the result of his exposure while handling commercial etnyl gasoline. Several months ago the widow of the deceased employee, represented by counsel, had hearings before IT. W. Kennard:, Chairman of the Industrial Accident Board and we, as the insurer of the 'Jenney Mfg. Company, vigorously'contested this claim. Both sides presented medical witnesses who held diametrically ooposite views on the question of whether ethyl gasoline in its commercial state could produce lead poisoning and leukemia which was the cause of this employee's death. Thru the splendid cooperation of the officials of the Jenney Mfg. Company, together with the valuable assistance rendered by Dr. Robert A. Kehoe while here in Boston at the trial, we were successful in receiving a formal decision dismissing this vexatious claim. Counsel for t ve widow has the right of appeal but we have every hope of having this decision affirmed in the event an apseal is taken.
In order to arrive at the decision ChairmanKennard had to discount the testimony of Prof. Howard W. Haggard of Yale University and Dr. M. Rv Mayers, connected with the Bureau of Industrial Hygiene, Department of Labor, State of NewYork, both witnesses having testified that there was medical causation between the employee's death and his exposure to the fumes of ethyl gasoline.
Your office, thru Mr. Mittnacht, has from time to time assisted us in making arrangements for your Dr.-Kehoe to be present and I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation for this assistance.
Very truly yours,
