No. 276 - 1950 February 28 REID ELECTED DIRECTOR, MEMBER OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE Joseph H. Reid, manager of the Titanium Division, has been elected a director and member of the Company's Executive Committee, succeeding Claude F. Garesche. Mr. Reid began his National Lead career in 1927 with the St. Louis Smelt ing and Refining Division as a mining engineer. He was transferred to the Baroid Sales Division in 1936, where he became production manager. Mr. Reid was transferred to the General Office in New York in 19^1 and in 19ii7 was made chairman of the mining committee. In December of the same year he became assistant manager of the Titanium Division. He was appointed manager of the division last year. He is a director of the Titanium Pigment Corporation. Mr. Garesche joined the Company in 1921 as assistant to the production manager. He became manager of the Titanium Division in 1937. In 1939 Mr. Garesche was elected a director of National Lead Company and a member of its Executive Committee. He was elected a vice-president of the Company in I9U6 and general manager of the Titanium Division a year later. He was named chair man of the research control committee of the Company last year. COMPANY PURCHASES ASSETS OF SCHORN PAINT MFG. CO. National Lead Company has purchased the assets of the Schorn Paint Mfg. Company, consisting of a fully equipped and operating paint factory at Seattle, Washington, along with interests in several retail paint stores. The properties will be operated as a part of National Lead's Pacific Coast Branch. LIPPERT APPOINTED GENERAL MGR. OF TITANIUM METALS CORPORATION OF AMERICA Appointment of Thomas W. Lipnert as general manager of Titanium Metals Corporation of America is announced today by H. C. Wildner, president. The appointment takes effect tomorrow when the conroany also opens offices in the Lincoln Building, 60 East i*2nd Street. Jointly owned by National Lead Company and Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation, the new enterprise will distribute titanium metal in various forms. Mr, Lippert is a graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology with a B. S, and M. S. in physics and. was for many years editor of Iron Age and a director of the Chilton Company. Recently he has been manager of all publications for the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers, including among his duties the editorship of the Journal of Metals. ARTHUR KETELSEN, VFTERAN EMPLOYEE, DIES Arthur Ketelsen, formerly superintendent of the white lead and oxide de partment at the Perth Amboy plant, died on February 17. He had retired from Company service last year. He began his Company career at the Jewett Works of the Atlantic Branch, where he became chief engineer and acting superintendent before moving to Perth Amboy. 0000-NLI-000024845
