HInaen General Offloea After reading Mr. Hanka's letter, it is our opinion that he has been handling Aroolors in a very incautious manner. Based on Anerioan industrial hygiene praotices this might even be called a dangerous manner. It is our recommendation that wherever Aroolor produots are used at elevated temperatures, adequate ventilation must be provided to maintain the atmospheric oenoentrations of Aroolor below the Hygianlo Standard er the Maxi mum Allowable Concentration (MAC) established by the Amerloan conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists. These MAC'S for Aroolor products are 1 for Aroolor 1242, 1.0 milligram per oubio meter, and far Aroolor 1254, 0.5 milligram per oubio meter. Under ordinary conditions the Aroolor produots are not particularly toxio as indicated by the oral acute toxicity which for Aroolor 1242 ia 4.15 nil/kg in rats and for Aroolor 1254 is 3-10 ml/kg in rata. At the risk of being repetitious the problems with Aro olors coma from repeated oontact on the unprotected akin in the form of dermatitis and from the inhalation of excessive quantities of vapors oould cause liver and kidney difficulties. I would suggest that a copy of ths attached publication on ths vapor toxioity of Arooler 1242 and Aroslor 1254 be sent to the subjeot company. If we can be of any further help, please let us know.
