VCK Refrigeration (22C3 et al) <a\- \; - 'ji In regard to the leak control studies which are being made on the VCM plant, we would like to know what provision is being made to protect against a leak of brine into the Preen Refrigerant Circulating System. With reference to corrosion as well as operations, how detrimental would such a leak be? Also, does tue manufacturer make provision for the detection of such a lea*? Original Signed by R. G. Murray Ro Qe Roth Go To Ryan Ee Mo Travis </ Le*' The purpose of this neeting was to review the loading of the first reactor, decide how the next one can be loaded more efficiently and Bafely, and decide who Is to handle the pres sure drop measurements on It. Listed below are the agreements reached at this meeting: 1. Sketches of two devices for loading catalyst Into the tubes were presentedo Hie function of these devices Is to elutriate fines from the catalyst as It Is loaded with the vacuum system. Baslcly these two devices are the same, sc refinement of the design will be left to the Design Engineering Dept- However, construction should be complete by next Thursday. g. During loading the workers should take care not to step on the catalyst as this breaks It up and makes even loading of the tubes very difficult, lhe load ing device will be suspended from an I-beam and should be moved about over the reactor with ropes or push poles. 3 The loading of the second reactor Is tentatively set for next Thursday. 4. This reactor Is not to be heated for loading since we believe this contributes nothing to proper loading and simply adds to the discomfort and hazard of the Job. (The vapor pressure of the mercuric chloride Is Increased.) 5, Blowing out each reactor tube prior to pressure drop measurements may not be necessary with the new loading device. Effectiveness of blowing will be evaluated by P. I. before all the tubes are blown. RSV0030872 1 6. Rubber boots, respirators, and coverallB should be worn by all persons working In the loading area while loading and blowing out is In progress. Anyone simply entering the area at this time should be protected by a respirator0 To After the reactor is loaded and pressure drop measure ments are being made, persons working in the area should wear a respirator, rubber boots, and coveralls0 8n Dirty coveralls are to be turned In to Safety Supply for special washing* 9 P< Io will handle the pressure drop measurments on the next reactor, analyse the data, and recommend which tubes are to be reloaded* 10* Production will catch samples of catalyst at frequent Intervals during loading for future study In case we get poor results on this charge of catalyst* BHH/Je Bo He Hartzog RSV0030873
