C-8 BLOOD SAMPLING PROGRAM
It is requested that, starting in 1985, all EPD Operators in the C-8 blood sampling program be scheduled for C-8 blood tests during one particular month. U p to now, C-8 blood tests have been done as part of the employee's routine physical. Such an arrangement is no longer adequate since:
Program calls for annual C-8 blood tests. However, under the new physical exam schedule, employees under 40 will be examined only once every 3 years and employees between 40 and 50 only once every 2 years. To adequately assess blood C-8 trends, it is recommended than an annual resairple schedule be kept.
Experimental Station feels that performing blood sampling during a single month will greatly improve efficiency of analysis work there. U p to now, sanples are sent to the Station as collected (i.e., one or two at a time). The Station holds these samples for several months until there are enough sanples to efficiently analyze. In order to keep these samples for such a long period, each incoming sample has to be specially treated. Such treatment is time consuming.
Since the Experimental Station, under this proposed sampling system, will be able to more quickly analyze sanples and report results back to us, appropriate follow-up of high or increasing results can be done in a more timely manner.

Therefore, please choose a specific month that best suits your B.T.O. for annual C-8 blood tests at Medical. Contact Jeanne Johnson (Ext. 4300) of Medical for test scheduling. It's preferred that Polymers and Copolymers B.T.O. 's choose the same month, if possible!
Please note that new FED Operators to be included in the C-8 program are still required to be tested upon beginning work in EPD. If work is started with less than 6 months to the next sanpling period, the new Operator can be allowed to wait until the following year to be retested. If there's over 6 months to the next sanpling period, it's recommended that the Operator be retested during this next period.
