Attached are reports showing the results of animal investigations. At the time of the animal studies, the fluid was identified as "OS-95". Our animal toxiolty studies with the decomposition products of the Pydrauls oonflrm the evolution of irritating gases, vapors and mists. Essentially, the decomposition products are made up of hydroohlorlo add vapors, carbon monoxide, and phenollc8. That these decomposition products are obnoxious and toxio to a degree is easily demonstrated. Our animal experiments have shown, however, that a limited exposure to these decomposition produots is no more hazardous from a toxioity standpoint than the decomposition produotB of petroleum base fluids. Further, obnoxious and irritating character istics of the decomposition produots of the fire-resistant fluids serve as a deterrent to exposure of workmen. We con sider this a "plus factor" in that workmen will not unknowingly expose themselves to insidious contaminants as might be the oase where toxio levels are not slgnifioantly discomforting.
