Sample A contained two fiber# of amphlbolo which we believe to be tataollte. Alee In sample A there Were ladicatfone of tele ribbons and Into shards. By talc ribbons we mean thin platea of tale vrbfoh imve tgroator than three to one axial ratio and therefore appear, just amribbons appear, to.be loss thin fiat plates of tale which are much greater in one dimension thJrn to the eeoond dimension, There was also tome Indication of an organic film preheat.

Sample 8 showed seme talc shards, which may be deporibfd as thin bundles of talo

This le tte r reco rd s the resu lts of our analysis of a sam ple of talc designated as Lot 7-18-19.
In our firs t exam ination of this talc we found a single fiber of chrysotile. The SAED p attern was extrem ely weak and does not show up on the print; how ever, under a 10X m agnifier on the negative we w ere positively able to confirm the fact that this is chrysotile. This would put the relative percentage of chrysotile a t approxim ately 1-2 ppm. Upon request, we subsequently re-exam ined this m aterial and in our second and third exam inations of the sam e m aterial, taking different sam ples and different lots from the sam ple, we did not find any further examples of chrysotile, thus the chrysotile observed in our f ir s t exam ination m ay well have been contam ination from the atm osphere or som e other source.
In o u r th ird exam ination we did find one p article of antigorite, which is also a serpentine but is not classified as an asbestos m ineral. Electron m icrographs of the chrysotile fib er and the antigorite particle are also included with this report.
We did find a high percentage of talc sh ard s, blocky talc and fibrous talc in th is s a m p le a n d I would e s tim a te th a t betw een 20 and 35% was non-platy talc.
We a re also including som e SAED p attern s which we feel m ay help in your future exam ination of these m inerals. Enclosed is a standard talc electron diffraction p attern and a standard chrysotile diffraction pattern, both taken a t 200 kV.
