Introduction
MAr.'K' !ROuNl >
Poot 'e Rc'jlntnr of Corporations, Dlrectorf, nnd Hxecutlves WAH (Irf3t published in 1928 by the then Poor's P llihlng Company, At that time IFK- Reqlstjr represented the first major publishing effort in providing a natio "Directory ol Dlr^clors" covering IIM? entire United States, Today, with this its 46th publication. Poor's Regi ix generally acknowlnrlgod nu being tho foremost guide to the business community and the executives who It, H hnfi since its Ino-ptlon maintained a progressive program for refinements and additions to its data and In a sense reached out beyond the scope of a national publication with the inclusion of Canadian busines and major International corporations. This haH been done in recognition ol the need for businessmen worldw to reach the men who make huylnq" decisions. Within its pages, the Register provides the richest marke the world for whatever product, proposition or service is being offered.
ARRANGHMKNT of DATA Poor's Register has been designed to provide easy access for whatever reference Is being made. It is arranged into seven main sections, and also includes a separate Geographic Index and cumulative sup plements. Section 1 Standard Industrial Classification Index
explains the construction and use of the SIC code nurnberB, and litils these numbers by major groups and by alphabetical and numerical division of major groups. This section may be used as a refer ence to determine quickly the appropriate SIC code number for the line of business in which a company is engaged. Seclion 2 Standard Industrial Classification Codes lists corporations under the four Digit Standard In dustrial Classification Codes which are arranged in numerical order. Approximately 900 different SIC codes provide a defined breakdown by a company's line of business. Many companies have multiple listings in this section depending on the various industrial activities in which the company
is engaged. Section 3 Corporate listings. Straight alphabetical
seguence by business name of approximately 34,000 corporations including zip codes; telephone numbers; names, titles, and functions of approxi
mately 231,000 officers, directors, and other prin
cipals; name of accounting firms; Standard In dustrial Classification codes; annual sales and
number of employees where available; division names and functions; subsidiary listings separate
with reference to parent companies; principal business affiliation and address of executives, if other
than the subject company.
Section 4 Individual listings Directors and Exe tives Section, A straight alphabetical list of proximately 70,000 individuals serving as offic directors, trustees, partners, etc. Provides princ business affiliations, business addresses, reside addresses and where obtainable year and pl of birth, college and year of graduation and ternal memberships.
Section 5 Obituaries section. Records the death which publishers have been notified in the p year. For identification, each obituary shows individual's principal business affiliation, busin address, and, if available, the date of death.
Section 6--New company additions. A comp alphabetical list of the companies appearing the Register for the first time. The principal b ness address is given for each company.
Section 7 New individual additions. A comp alphabetical list of individuals whose names pear in the Register for the first time. The princ business connection and business address is gi for each individual.
Geographic Index. This separate index lists c panies appearing in the Register geographica by states. Business names are in alphabetical quence.
Register Supplements. Reqister subscribers are titled to interim supplements which contain tails of chanqes which have occurred since lication of the annual volume. These supplem are usually published in April, July, and Octo of every year. Each supplement is cumulative only the latest need be kept.
l.DITORIAL COMPILATION nnd UPDATING PROCEDURES Th work of keepinq the.- Reqister up to date is carried on throuqhout the twelve months of the year. Pr
Introduction (continued)
publication of Iho preceding year's issue. Standard (N; Poor's computerized facilities are used in stori dating, and photo composition of this dflta. Ddily news services, press announcements, trade public Standard & Poor's own editorial sldff, and of course individual contact by interested members within th ness community have contributed to the completeness of this publication. In as Icirqe cind comprehens undertaking as the Register these efforts result in extensive changes in our data from year to year. For ex the number of individual and corporate listings in which major changes occurred since our last editio excess of 100,000 and the number of actual revisions necessary to bring this edition completely up to over half a million. In effect, each edition becomes a Afresh" one with new opportunities for buyers and alike to pinpoint their most profitable markets. There is, of course, no charge to be listed in Poor's Regis
OUR APPRECIATION We again welcome this opportunity to thank all those individuals and corporations1 who have coopera reviewing proofs and responding to our reguests; and particularly our subscribers for their loyalty and s as well as their helpfulness in calling to our attention changes in our corporate and executive listings. W you there would be no Poor's Register. It is only through this joint participatory effort that we are able t sent in this our forty-sixth annual edition a work of unusual thoroughness.
