ETHYL CORPORATION POLYMER DIVISION ETHYL TCWER 451 FLORIDA BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA 70801 TELEPHONE: 504 346*4971 Mr. Charles D, Goldstein American Cynamid Company Consumer Products Division 35 Market Street East Patterson. NJ C7407 JAN 12 1972 file Dear Mr. Goldstein: Through Mr. Mulshine cf Imco you asked for comments on studies conducted by a Dr. P. 0. Viola. We have seen Dr. Viola's paper on vinyl chloride. We believe his work suggests tr.e need for further studies in this area and we understand the MCA is considering the support of such work. However, regardless of what conclusions may ultimately come from this work, it is our opinion that no threat to the availability of PYC will result since we believe safe means cf manufacture for both PVC and vinyl chloride are available. Further, we see no hazard tc our PVC customers because vinyl chloride is present in PVC in trace amounts at most (usually unaetecnable). Further, if decomposition of the PVC is incurred in processing, vinyl chloride is not formed as a decomposition product. Very truly yours CWM:p ag bcc : C. W. Montgomery General Manager VC 1064
