Dioxin in Art Studio Ball Clay
In 1996, dioxins were discovered in ball clay as a result of an investigation to determine the sources of elevated dioxin levels in two chicken samples from a national survey of poultry. The investigation indicated that the contamination source was ball clay added to chicken meal as an anti-caking agent. In the mid2000's, EPA conducted a study to evaluate the potential exposure scenario of the use of ball art clay in ceramic art studios.
