Welch, Vice President FROM Saudi Arabia ACTION REQUIRED: Review for information Internal Correspondence July 9, 1982 OATE On June 21 and June 22, 1982, Staff responded to a number of telephone inquiries from Morgan-Newman Associates, Inc., a Washington, D.C. consulting firm, regarding the estimated cost of A/C pipe manufacturing facilities, the manufacturing process, employee levels, occupational and environmental regulations and market outlook. Morgan-Newman made, the inquiries at the request of Ministry of Industries in Saudi Arabia. The individual who contacted the Association, Ms. Lisa Carle, stated it was the role of this particular Ministry to approve the construction of new plants in Saudi Arabia. Correspondence February 25, 1982 DATE Saudi Arabia - Inquiry About Safety of A/C Pipe SUBJECT REF: JFW correspondence, same title, December 11, 1981 ACTION REQUIRED: Review for information On February 16, 1982, Staff contacted the United States Department of Commerce to determine, the status of the Western Saudi Arabia Water and Sewage Authority inquiry on the safety of A/C water pipe. Carl Reiner reported that information provided by AACPP and the National Bureau of Standards was sent to the U.S. Embassy. The Embassy acknowledged the suitability of the information and reported that doubts about product use were resolved. It is Reiner's understanding that the Authority continues to use A/C pipe and there are no bans or engineering restrictions on its use in that country.
