Uy estimate is based upon the assumption, whloh I be11ere to be true, that the statis tics of the Census Bureau oovers all the paint manufac turers in the United states, whereas the lead in oil sta tistics of the Bureau of nines are confined to a list of companies stipulated in the report and which correspond to the members of the Lead Industries Association, except DuPont. By priwate correspondence I have learned from the Census Bureau that the number of comaniee oovered by their statistics totals 98 whereas by actual oount the com panies oovered by the Bureau of Mnes report total seven for 1931. Uy conclusions are, as the table indicates, the amount of leed in oil sold by companies who are not mem bers of the Lead Industries Association is very small.
