This would enable individual plants or companies to compare their results with comparable companies in the same type of business as well as with the lead industry as a whole. The companies received a letter in May 1980 asking for data. The data which were received were aggregated at the University of Cincinnati Department of Environmental Health Computer Center, under the direction of Dr. Peter Gartside. The results have been summarized by Dr. Donald Lynam in a paper entitled, "Blood Lead Survey Results" which was presented at the LIA Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas in April 1981. Only twelve companies par ticipated in this survey and we encourage more to do so, so that we can obtain a better means of comparison. We are now requesting from all member companies, biological monitoring results for the second quarter (April 1 - June 30) of 1981. No extra effort should be made to obtain these results, and normal sampling practices should be maintained. The requested data are the same that would be made available on request to OSHA or to an employee representative. We plan to request data on a quarterly basis, summarize the data and make it available to the participants. Because of the time required to translate the data from the form to the computer we would prefer that the companies enter their data on magnetic tape. If a magnetic tape is not feasible, a revised form for compiling biological monitoring results has been enclosed. Companies which would prefer not to submit data on tape or forms are requested to provide a summary of statistics which should be submitted with the following information: means, standard deviations, and percentiles by department. To assist us with the program, we request that companies which would prefer not to submit data send in a statement of reasons.
