J-M Manufacturing Company, Inc. fo R, D. Andrews Fiom E. D. Wang Internal Correspondence Dato: March 22, 1985 copies-c. J. Chen s-b.ed; AIRBORNE ASBESTOS FIBER CONCENTRATIONS AT STOCKTON PLANT Mr. E.P. Zimmer, Environmental Health Specialist of INA Loss Control Services, Inc., has told me that they have completed the lab work on asbestos samples of youz' plant. All 30 samples collected this time were below the current OSHA's Permissible Exposure Limit of. 2.0 f/cc. However, the following eight samples were in excess of the proposed new OSIIA Standard of 0.5 f/co. 1. -?1 UPL Inspector, J. Ramirez, 1,0 f/cc; 2. #2 UCL Operator, J, Smith, 0,69 f/cc; 3. #'4 UCL Operator, S. Rorabaugh, 0.9 I/go; 4. #3 Willow Operator, A. Dykema, 1.1 f/cc; 5. Small Wet Saw Operator, B. Cavan, 1.9 f/cc; 6. Coupling Operator, F. Kastelhun, 0.81 f/ec; 7. 3 P/M Area Flow Pan, 1,9 f/cc; and 8. Large Wet Saw Operator, R. Stroheker, 1.975 f/cc. All the rest airborne asbestos fiber concentrations were below 0.28 f/cc. For those samples exceeding 0.5 f/cc, local exhaust ventilation efficiency, work practices, and housekeeping need to be checked/ improved. It should be noted that the California action level on asbestos is 0.1 f/cc, and about 77% of the samples collected this time were greater than this value. To be on the safe side, all operators are required to wear their proper respirators during work hours. And this should be strictly implemented. In addition, it is suggested that after taking' all necessary corrective actions, Mr. Zimmer should be contacted for resampling of those areas exceeding 0.5 f/cc. ' A copy of the detailed report will be forwarded to you by Mr. Zimmer when it becomes available. ' WAR. 2 2 1985 SC-JMM-2860 EXHIBIT : Rhonda S. Hanson, CSR DAWES001705
