Hi Caleb,
Thank you for your interest! We reached out to the project team that has been working with the City of Lexington on their BUILD project. As you know, this grant was obligated in September of 2022, since which the City has been working on necessary tasks and deliverables. We would encourage Lexington to continue communicating with the FRA project management team and submitting timely deliverables, documents, updates, etc. for review and acceptance. We would also recommend the City raise any concerns directly with the project management team. In the meantime, I've let the project team know

that Lexington may reach out to discuss the deadlines and that the Senator has expressed interest in the project.
As a heads up, the FY20 BUILD NOFO this project was selected under includes the following language: All FY 2020 BUILD funds must be expended (the grant obligation must be liquidated or actually paid out to the grantee) by September 30, 2027. After this date, unliquidated funds are no longer available to the project.
Best, Mara

Good afternoon Hannah and Trish,
I hope this email finds you well today -- I wasn't sure who best to direct this to so I figured I would tag you both but please feel free to re-direct me! We are writing you regarding the City of Lexington's 2020 BUILD Grant award. From the information our office has received, there were numerous years lost on this project due to insurance issues which have been resolved. Despite the increased cost of construction, the city still fully intends to complete the project and cover all of the associated cost increases. However, it is our understanding that federal funds for the project must be expended by September 30, 2027 and that the project must be operational by March of 2028. The city has suggested to us that an expenditure deadline of September 30, 2029 and an operational deadline of March of 2030 would allow them to finalize right of way acquisition and avoid unnecessary shortcuts.

Whenever possible, can you please provide us with a status update on this project from the perspective of the department? Additionally, any insight you might have into the potential for any such extension would be greatly appreciated!
