Since January 1, we have been operating Phase II of the yield optimization EVOP in Aroclor 54,60. This involved an extension of the controlling vari ables (Chlorinator Crude Softening Point) in the direction of optimum yields, as shown by the first phase.
Since January 1, approximately 34 still batches have been run but only 2 of these have contributed to the Evolutionary Operation study. The problem has been incomplete recording of essential batch data by the operators. The feeling has been expressed by still operators and the foreman that the work load is too high to expect the operator to stick the still receiver and record outage on the #2 still batch. You have indicated that you thought it was not wise to insist on this data being continued at this time.
In this case I suggest, with regret, that the Evolutionary Operation study for
yield optimization be suspended, but that the improved batch sheets be continued
in use.

Following are the best conditions revealed by the study, to date. They demonstrated over 3 months an improvement of 4%, and I recommend that the process be stabilized at these conditions for maximum yields.

The work on Softening Point-Density relationship on #10 and #11 chlorinators must be continued to provide the necessary data for evaluating density control. This means that the following data should be recorded on the special data sheets which you started and I have continued to provide:
#10, #11 CHLORINATOR DENSITY-SOFTENING POINT RELATIONSHIP
Batch No.
Record This Data # Chlorine Density Soft. Point
80% Alarm
Density Alarm Final Point

A revised data sheet is attached to replace the two data sheets now needed. No additional testing is required. I will continue to search for a setting on the density meters which will sound the alarm at the final point.
Your comments, and comments from those receiving copies of this memo, will be appreciated.
