The purpose of the visit was to investigate the occupational disease claim filed by<_ alleges that he developed asbestosls as a result of exposure to asbestos while working as an insulation worker. Employment records of R. E. Kramlg Indicate was employed by the company from March 1, 1958, through September 9, 1985, his last day worked. His job title was mechanic. A company representative did Indicate the claimant was involved in the Installation and removal of asbestos containing Insulation materials while employed by R. E. Kramlg. Job locations Included power plants, boiler rooms, etc., as reported by the claimant and contained In the file. was diagnosed with asbestosls by Or. Arthur Frank on November 12, 1984, and by Dr. Michael Kelly on February K, 1985. Dr. Kelly's letter In the file states that his diagnosis was based on radiographic abnormalities and early pulmonary function changes which are consistent and corraborate the symplo,,.. and physical findings. >r. Kelly states that the present impairment amounts to 20X. The relationship between exposure to asbestos and the development of asbestos related diseases is well known and well documented In the literature. Exposure to significant concentrations of asbestos has resulted In asbestosls, mesothelioma and cancer of the lungs and digestive tract. However. rapiJ development has been observed from relatively high exposures. Asbestosis Is comnonly associated with restrictive physiological lung Impairment In which the earliest Impairments are those Involving gas exchange and diffusion capacity. These aarly Impairments may be detected only during perils of activity. In the latter stages of the disease, symptoms resulting from gas exchange and diffusion abnormalities are detectable at rest and are related to a reduction In pulmonary functions.!
