I am returning herewith, the oopy of letter you re ceived from Mr* Robertson of the U. S. Smelting Refining 4 Mining Company that he addres8ed to Ur. A. S. UoAllister, Chief, Division of Specification*, Department of Commerce, Washington, on the subject of furnishing affidavit* covering lead shipments*
We have been approached by aeveral of our customers to furnish affidavits as to the purity of the lead we shipped, and in oases like the American l>teel 4 <<ir* Company and our own organization, we have complied with suoh requests.
Xeedless to say, we agree with the position Ur* Robertson has taken with the Burear of Standard* and,as we he oorreotly paints out, the redress of the consumer is to have the matter taken up with the American Society for Testing Material*, that Sooiety to adjust the specification* to meet the requirements of the user. W* do not believe it is a matter for the Bureau of Standarda to bother with*
Thanking you for oalling my attention to the matter, Respeotfull^,
