Den Haag, 21 september 2023 Betreft: Toelichting leden over VNG steun EU PFAS-verbod Het PFAS-dossier staat in Brussel al jaren op de agenda. Het rijk bepleit met enkele andere lidstaten al sinds 2021 voor een verbod (https://vng.nl/nieuws/europees-verbod-op-pfas-is-belangrijke-eerste-stap). In dit jarenlange proces worden de komende tijd weer enkele stappen genomen. Momenteel heeft de expertgroep van het EU chemische agentschap ECHA (NL lid vanuit RIVM op persoonlijke expert titel) een openbare consultatie gepubliceerd waar VNG aan bijdraagt als volgt: "From the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG), we endorse the importance of the carefully drafted PFAS Restriction Proposal Annex XV, including all considerations. Due to their diverse nature we also strongly emphasize the need for feasible and financial supported policies concerning the prohibition of production, marketing, and consumption of PFAS-containing products. We understand that medicines and pesticides are currently excluded from the ban, but we hope for as few exceptions as possible given the complexity of exemptions for licensing processes, oversight, and enforcement. Daarna zal er nog geconsulteerd worden op andere aspecten vanuit twee andere expertgroepen comit risicobeoordeling (RAC) en comit sociaal economische analyse (SEAC) (https://www.rivm.nl/pfas/verbod-gebruik-pfas). In de loop van volgend jaar zal de Europese Commissie op basis van de wetenschappelijke adviezen van de expertgroepen een wetsvoorstel publiceren. Dat is de fase waarop de lidstaten hun standpunt bepalen. Het rijk zal dan met belanghebbenden waaronder VNG om de tafel gaan. Tot zover nu.
