In September, of 1979, samples were collected a t the International Harvester Louisville Foundry and analyzed lo r the presence of asbestos fibers. Analytical results for all samples except the raw intake water have been provided to you in a previous letter*

Because chrysotile fibers Were observed in one or more of the samples collected a t
your facility, analyses of the raw intake water sample(s) were completed. Evalua
tion of these data indicate whether the asbestos fibers found in the plant process
wastestreams are a result of plant operations or an ambient' "pass through"
situation, whereby asbestos fibers are present in the raw water.
