This meeting was called to continue the lesson among TSD, Research and Biodize concerning color pollution problems in the WGK Plant sewers, particularly as a result of ONA and PNA operations. The items discussed were as follows: 1. Status of treatment method evaluation for color removal: a. Activated carbon effectively removes ONA color from simulated process stream. - b. Analytical method developed to quantitatively eval uate treatment methods. . c. Solvent extraction, shows limited potential utility. d. ' Fly ash shows poor uniformity and poor effectiveness compared to carbon. e. Need to set quantitative goal as to color removal (APHA color limit) . f. Plans are to establish effectiveness with actual ONA and PNA process streams, and to estimate approximate column effectiveness to gain cost data. DSW 297329 STLCOPCB4067239 2 2. Potential peaks in sewer contamination due to packaging area clean up by flushing areas with water at end of shift. Alternates to flushing were considered. 3. Need to define method of distributing treatment cost were discussed, particularly as an incentive to keep the waste streams clean. 4. Methods and need for ammonia removal to meet potential limit of NH^ and or NO^ in waste stream. a. Sequence of treatment. b. Possible absorption in phosphoric acid to make ammonium phosphate fertilizer. , 5. Need for ultimate neutralization of total plant stream. OSNN M7330 STLCOPCB4067240
