Felts and Papers Ga~'-.otinq A plant run made to fill a trial order of acrylonitrile gasketing sheet was released by Victor Gasket and a price quotation has been requested prior to reorder. A heavy production schedule has pre vented running laboratory-formulated asbestos gasket stock with neoprene binder to meet Detroit Gasket Company specifications. Cooling Tower Fill Formulation work has led to an improved asbestos saturating paper for cooling tower fill manufacture. A plant trial will be made in order to obtain material for a plant evaluation by the Marley Company. Automotive Fiber glass molds of a Lincoln wheel house cover and a Fisher body sail area have been obtained. Molded parts will be handmade from, these patterns and submitted to the customers for sound and other tests. An aluminum sail area mold will be fabricated for further trials on an outside rotary vacuum-forming machine. Some problems due to equipment limitations were encountered in the five hour vacuum-forming tests using a non-automotive part mold. Valuable in formation was obtained and the time - temperature cycle for various mastic and foam combinations was developed. It is indicated that the cost of moldable mastic parts will be between three and five times higher than the current flat mastic units. Marketing con tinues to be enthusiastic about this approach. Corrugated M/F for Cooling Towers Three orders, totalling approximately 2 1/4 million square feet, have been received for strips cut from 4.2 corruqated mineral fiber sheets. These will be produced using standard Type I cement with high pressure steam curing. Additional orders, however, specify Type V cement. Laboratory tests indicate satisfactory physical pro perty values with this cement and St. Louis has completed a plant trial which will include both normal and steam-cured product. The sheets will be analyzed for conformance with strength requirements and studies will be made on any advantage over Type I cement for sulphate resistance. II. MINERAL PRODUCTS (Hagerstown) A. Raw Materials and New Formulations Color and quality of Charmian production employing a 50/50 mixture of cryolite and potassium aluminum fluoride in place of all cryolite has been satisfactory.
