I have deposited the check in a separate savings account for the Project in a nearby United Virginia Bank. I have had several responses to my letters (of June 29) that X sent to the various local universities. I have enclosed letters from American University, George Mason University, George Washing ton University, Georgetown University and Howard University. Although I have had much contact with the University of Maryland, they have not sent any letters in return. As I told you by phone, only Howard University has made me an offer and that offer, so far, includes no University financial support, (see my corre spondence with Dr. William West). In making my plans I % i l l have to examine my needs and the possibility of supplementing my in come before I am able to accept the position at Howard. As you will recall over the past several years, I have dis cussed with you my interest in writing an expanded version of your biography and the Kettering Laboratory's relationship to the development of occupational medicine, environmental health and toxicology in this country. If you are agreeable to my prepar ing this history, I would like'you to advise Jerry Cowan of this and have him formally set this up. Because he will ask me to document my intentions concerning your files and this task, I have written a letter addressed to him for this purpose. This letter indicates my concerns and my aspirations for this book. _ If you are agreeable to this then you can send my letter to Mr. Cowan. If so, I want to plan to spend some time with you going over your files and discussing what materials should or should not be used. The book outline (enclosed) dates back to November of 1974. You may want me to change some of the emphases. I could plan to work on this history during October through December, after I get the data paper off to the publisher. If you do not wish for me to do this additional task, I will understand. I had wanted to wait until I finished the data paper before approaching you again on the biography question. Since it looks as though I may be between full time jobs until January of 1977, this might be a good time to start on the biography. page 2 Dr. Kehoe July 30, 1976 . Because of the tenuous nature of the position at Howard University, I am uneasy about it. I do not at this time know what I should do. The work on your balance data is moving along well.
