Black materials, unpigmented, Polymeric or Resinous, Including both original and added solubles. Includes minor coloration when addition is not large enough for Class 72. Contains modifications of volatile diluents, resinous and oily materials.
3000 - 3009 Asphalts & Tars, natural mineral; e.g. Gilsonite, Manjak.
3010 - 3019 Asphalts & Tars, synthetic mineral; e.g., coal tar, petroleum asphalts, plain or air blown.
3020 - 3029 Asphalts, Tar & Pitches, non-mineral; e.g. vegetable oil pitches, tall oil pitches or pine tar.
3030 - 3039 Asphaltic combinations of any of the preceeding three sub-classes.
3040 - 3049 Asphalts modified by any resinous material; e.g. by resins, but not by fatty oils.
3050 - 3099
Asphalts modified by fatty oils, with or without other modifiers. The last two numberals may, where possible, indicate twice the percentage of oil content in the non-volatile portion.

Remarks
The principal black materials used in non-pigmented black paints are the bitumens. These materials, in a volatile solvent, with or without, the addition of drying oils and resins, are used to produce many useful products in the protective coatings field.
These coatings are used largely in air drying and baking enamels; in the electri cal insulating field; in anti-fouling and anti-corrosive blacks; for acid, alkali and brine resistant paints; in stains; for coating underground pipes; damp proof ing masonry; and repairing asphalt and tar roofs.

Used in quick drying truck chasis black.

This product meets Federal Specifications JAN-P-450, Type 1, for a quick drying paint for ammunition shells. Restricted. Purchased for resale.
30A9
A high melting point, asphaltic base, blown asphalt used mostly in the production black baking enamels on objects such as springs, steel stove parts and boilers.
(30C4)
This is a quick drying spraying paint for use in ammunition shells. It is slower drying than (30A4). It is formulated to meet Federal Specifi cations JAN-P-450, Type II. Restricted. Purchased -for resale.
(30C7)
This is an electrical insulation varnish consisting of 3005 modified with vegetable oils and limed rosin. It is used on large and small armatures and on field and stator coils, etc.

Restricted to use in Furniture Tech Service stains.
A coal tar liquid which gives excellent protection on underground pipes and tanks. It is a very durable black and can be recommended generally as a good weather protective black (Ebonol).
