Ferrell - Baltimore May 15, 1979 subject BENZENE EXPOSURE We have recently received further information that suggests that benzene exposure could prove harmful to females and in particular, an unborn fetus. This is a potentially volatile subject and I feel both medical and management guidance is necessary. Basically, our question is whether benzene exposure is harmful to females? If so, is the danger limited to females of childbearing capabilities? Our present employment policy is one of uncertainty in regards to females. We have made no move to realign our present workforce or change our employ ment practices. If this issue is not expediently resolved, we could possibly expose the Baltimore plant to health liability suits. I would be pleased to discuss this with you at your earliest convenience. R. T.
