1.0 SCOPE OF WORK
Work covered bjr this Specification shall consist of furnishing all labor, materials, and equipment required to furnish and install Vinyl Asbestos Tile flooring for offices and other rooms, as shown on the drawings,
2.0 WORK BY OTHERS
Base slab, subfloor, or other subsurfaces.
3.0 MATERIALS
3.1
Samples of tile and cove base shall be submitted to the Contractor and must be approved before work is started. Samples shall bear labels stating the color, gage, the location in which they are to be used, and manufacturer's name.
3.2 Vinyl asbestos tile shall be first quality material. Tile shall
meet the requirements of Interim. Federal Specification L-T-00345
(COM-NBS), 28 August, 19$9. All tile shall be 9" x 9" x 1/8".
3.3
Cove base shall be vinyl, 4" wall height, 1/8" thick, with molded set-on type cove, preformed end stops, internal and external corners. Color of base shall be as indicated on the drawings and/or as approved after submission of samples,
3.4 Adhesive and cements shall be as recommended by the manufacturer of the tile.
3.5
Crack filler and primers - Crack filler for holes, rough spots, cracks, and expansion joints in concrete subfloors and primer for concrete subfloors shall be as recommended by the manufacturer of the tile.
3.6 Metal Molding Strips shall be of stainless steel.
4. INSPECTION
Prior to starting work, the surface of the subfloor upon which the tile is to be laid shall be inspected, and any defects found in the surface shall be reported in writing. Failure to report defects shall constitute acceptance of the subfloor.
3.0 INSTALLATION
3.1
General - Vinyl asbestos tile shall be stored at a minimum temperature of ?3F for at least 24 hours before installation, and the temperature of the materials and room shall be not less than ?0F during installation of the tile. Tile shall lie flat at least one (1) hour before being adhered.

Preparation of Subfloor - The subfloor shall be brooracleaned, thoroughly dry, and free of paint, wax, grease, or oil. Holes, rough spots, cracks or joints in concrete subfloors shall be filled with crack filler. All concrete subfloors shall be primed. Primer shall be thoroughly brushed in at the rate recommended by the manufacturer of the primer. Primer shall be allowed to dry completely before application of adhesive.
5.3 Adhesive shall be applied as recommended by the manufacturer.

Tile shall be laid true, level and even. Tile shall be laid from the center of the room to the walls. After it has adhered, the vinyl asbestos tile shall be rolled in two directions with a roller weighing not less than 150 pounds. Tile shall be fitted to and around all permanent fixtures. Borders, where required, shall be fitted accurately.
5. Tile Edges - Exposed edges of tile at door sills, etc., shall be protected with metal molding.
5.6 Cove base shall .be firmly cemented to the walls and accurately scribed to trim and plinth.
6.0 CLEANING
All flooring shall be thoroughly cleaned of surplus adhesive, plastic mortar and grout. All scraps, packing materials, debris, and other extraneous matter shall be removed.
7.0 ACCEPTANCE
Improper application of the adhesive or imperfect embedment of tile in the adhesive, as evidenced by ridges in the surface, by lack of even and uniform bearing, by loose bond or by curled loose edges, will be cause for rejection. All such defects shall be remedied to the satisfaction of the Contractor prior to acceptance.
