Peele - Wilmington May 18. 1973 Wilmington Akron At 11:45 A.M. ON Thursday, May 17, 1973, Mr. 8. C. Boucher, OSHA Inspector for thie district, arrived or a plant inspection. This was to check on the status of the thirteen citations recently from his February 22, 1973 Inspection. We were cleared on all of the citations except Item number 1, 3, and 9. Item one Is regarding an exit sign over the Plant Laboratory door. We thought that ve had cleared this citation by installing an exit sign. We vere advised today that this must be a lighted exit sign. This will be installed In the next fcv days. Item three Is partly corrected, ve have to complete the roof work to abate this citation fully. Mr. Boucher required a xerox copy of our plant purchase order as proof that ve actually had this Job in progress. This Is covered by our p.o. number NT 06204. Item nine is regarding the chain guards around our J/S truck dock I . We had Installed a chain guard as required. We had to provide a xerox copy of our purchase order for this chain and xerox copies of the catalog paper indicating the chain had a break strength of 200 pounds or more. We still do not have total approval of this chain guard. We must provide vertical supports on 8 foot centers for this chain, then ve can gain approval. We vere Instructed by Mr* Boucher to telephone him vhen this vork is completed. We explained that ve thought ve had cleared all of the citations except the roof repair. We vere advised that OSHA cannot advise the proper abatement procedures, they can only advise If our corrective otepa arc accep table or not. There vas no Indication that any further dollar penalty vill be Imposed. | At our afternoon meeting following the Inspection, Mr. Boucher asked several questions about our asbestos dust problems In the Joint System Depart ment. I had to give him informationTegSRffln? our A.F.E. request for the dust collectors. When ask about the delay In starting the project I advised that ve vere valtlng for their OSHA asbestos test results so proper equipment could be purchased to meet all requirements. We also advised that ve vere actively engaged In vork to phase asbestos out of our products. This seemed to take a lot of pressure off of the asbestos situation right svay. We vill call Mr. Boucher In the next fev days and advise him that items one and nine are cleared. We vill assume that this file Is closed as soon as the roof repairs are made, / >c With the experience ve have had today, having to prove the chain strength and prove that the roof job had been awarded.
