Mattheis Placement of the Sample Cassette on Welding Helmet During the last three months of 1987, ORC received a number of requests to obtain clarification from OSHA on their changed policy concerning the placement of the sample cassette on or under the welding helmet when sampling for welding fumes. Responding to these requests, ORC discussed the issue with OSHA. ORC was informed that the change in the placement of the sample cassette from the inside to the outside of the welding helmet came about because of practical difficulties with mounting the cassette inside a welding helmet. ORC then put its questions into writing and transmitted them to OSHA. A copy of ORC/s letter and OSHA's reply is attached for your interest. DKM3:lgs DO 074849 OONFTDFNTTAL
