MT. G. M. V.likening Head Industrial Hygiene & Safety Administration Department Bell Telephone Laboratories Murray Hill, Hew Jersey 07971
Dear Mr. Wilkenings
Please accept my thinks for your letter of August 13th concerning the statement made by B. B. Broaie et al., concerning the conversion of tetraethyllead to a carcinogenic compound. This was called to my attention recently by a member of the bibliographic staff of the Department. In my efforts to wind up my affairs in the Department and to get away on a much-needed vacation (on a trout stream in Montana, from which I have just returned), I neglected to do anything about this, and I am glad to that you have reminded me.
I have no clue to the background of this remark. but I suspect that something in the literature (perhaps in a Russian publication) was responsible. In any case, we are trying to find out. I shall certainly follow these up and am considering how best to do it.
As to my retirement, it may interest you to know that I am heading for Santiago, Chile for the next three months, as a consultant to the Pan American Health Organization through Jack Bloomfield. After that I hope to return, on some part-time basis, to the Laboratory, and to have a quiet corner, with freedom from other responsibilities, where I can gather together the Material on lead, which we have been collecting for many years, for publication as a monograph.
With best regards
Sincerely,
Robert A. Kehoe, M. D. '
