In 1974, the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta carried out a retrospective cohort mortality study as part of its study of the vinyl chloride-angiosarcoma problem existing at the B.F. Goodrich Chemical Company, At that time, a pathology review was undertaken for all lung cancer cases identified at the plant and for a group of matched hospital control cases of lung cancer, with particular attention to histologic typing, Their analysis suggested a paucity of epidermoid and an excess of large cell undifferentiated carcinoma among the B,F, Goodrich employees, I now wish to obtain data on the seven cases of lung cancer which have occurred subsequent to this study; five of whom were patients at St, Anthony's Hospital, The present request is for a review of records only and not for a review of pathology specimens. It is possible that a review of pathology specimens will be requested at a later date. In response to your specific questions: 1) Type of study: This is a matched case-control study of histologic classification of lung cancer, 2) Purpose of study: The purpose is to determine if large cell undifferentiated carcinoma occurs more commonly in former B.F. Goodrich employees than in matched controls, 3) How findings are to be used: Positive findings would lead to further analysis in an attempt to determine the exploration for this finding.
