M. Gentlemen. I t s purpose was to inform the various traded o f the decisions made by th is D ivision o f the T .C .I . regarding the precautions taken against A sbestosis. These conditions wore to govern T .O .T. personnel and any sub-contractors employed d irect by T .C .I . upon insulation work, p a rtic u la rly with r gard to strip p in g . As far an construction work was concerned th is was l e f t to the d iscretio n o f the constructor though certain safeguards may be requested by the engineer to protect other trades. A fter the meeting had adjourned, instructed by Mr. Gentleman to c a ll upon Mr. .T. M. Henderson, Maintenance Manager, o f the Albeton Works (H.O.C. Plant) to whom we are responsible foj* our maintenance contract. Mr. Henderson, then la id down the follow ing conditions for working upon his p a r tic u la r plant as follow si- 1. ) Respirators to be worn during a ll operations. 2. ) Areas to be roped o f f and notices hung within five yards of operations. 3. ) Dust-proof overalls to be worn and changed d a ily , also to be removed during break-periods and l e f t on the jo b . 4. ) Stripped in su la tio n to be co lle cte d on a tarpaulin sheet, damped down, packed in polythene bags and removed to a suitable clearing area. 5. ) Gloves to be worn at a l l times and replaced when badly worn. 6. ) Any operative disobeying these instructions to be dimmissed from the Bite immediately. With the exception o f the respirators I . C . I . w ill.p ro vid e a l l the items Respirators would have been supplied by I . C . I . i f requested but from the . hygenie point o f view the Writer decided to u t ilis e the Company' s issu e . Regarding the new construction work, a certain proportion o f these measures w ill have to be adhered to . .To what extent is not yet known and w ill depend upon discussion between -the contractor and engineer. However certain items may well be written into the Terms and Conditions o f Contract. Close lia is o n w ill be maintained by the Writer and any further developments w ill be .reported. t I o / * I
