On behalf of the California Rice Commission, an association of California Rice farmers handlers and millers who we represent in Washington, we want to alert you to a pending herbicide tolerance which must be approved within the next week in order for farmers to be able to utilize the product this planting season. Benzobicyclon is a rice specific herbicide more targeted for the CA market and the temperate japonica rice grown in California - similar to Japanese rice where this herbicide was originally registered. The herbicide is an early season product, and will work with our system this year due to the lateness of planting from the wet weather. Benzo is brand named Butte Herbicide. The EPA 30-day posting to register ended on March 30th. Benzobicyclon went through a concurrent submission process in California so that EPA and the CA Dept, of Pesticide Regulation (CDPR) could coordinate on the registration. Benzobicyclon was posted 30-days to register with the end date of April 8. We greatly appreciate any attention you can give to this matter. My regards, Tyson 17cv1906 Sierra Club v.
