" PURPOSE OF CALL: 17 Investigate complaint on viscosity differences of S-335. __Discuss status of S-335 replacing Aroclor 1254________________________________ S-335 VISCOSITY DIFFERENCES - Petrasek reported that the drum of S-335 shipped to the Construction Products plant in Chicago had lower viscosity than the previous 5 gallon sample of S-335 made up at our Queeny plant. This caused formulation problems which they had to adjust by lowering the level of plasticize HO J_s fearful that viscosity variations from batch to batch could cause serious^ production problems. I presented Petrasek with a new one gallon sample of S-335 and asked him to document viscosity differences if he wanted help from Monsanto. 2j Status of Conversion from Aroclor 1254 to S-335 - Sbhachter reported that th pi ant In Chicago and In North Bergen, New Jersey have sufficient Aroclor IZ54 tn_Yentory to carry them through the balance of 1971. Apparently they have experienced a slowdown In demand for these types of polysulfide caulks and ' sea 1 ants. Petrasek indicated that they have begun new activity evalating a lower cost plasticizer other than S-335 which may be able to replace A-1254. Petrasek Indicated that he regards the 27.H price on S-335 to be prohibitive for his applications and that he is evaluating other plasticizers including ' Chlorinated Paraffin and imported Biphenyls from Japan. Petrasek also reported that S-335 does net impart as good tacklfyisy properties as did Aroclor 1254.
