When I met Scott in the Capitol after the Joint Session a few weeks ago, I told him that I had specific regulatory change recommendations that resulted from my personal experience building a river bridge for GaDOT over the last 3 years. My family company has been building marine type bridges for 85 years all over the Southeast and we have won numerous environmental awards for extra effort in protecting our waters and endangered species. I worked closely with individuals in FHWA, GDOT, USFWS, USCOE, NMFS, and EPA to get approval for a Value Engineering Proposal that changed the design of the river piers, better protected the endangered species at the site, and saved the taxpayers almost a million dollars.... a win, win, win.......but it was unnecessarily time consuming and costly due to duplication and application of the volumes of regs as written. I could not afford to do it again, but I wanted this experience now to help you know more about where we can streamline regulations, save money, and still protect our environment.
