Bilger B3NA As a step toward resolving the PCB problem to the overall satisfaction of Monsanto, it is now planned to form a PCB task force. The composition of this task force will be made up of informed and able people. To accomplish this latter point and to also accomplish the desired result, it appears we will have to go outside of the present Functional Products Business Group.organization. It would be very beneficial to have a person of the caliber of Jim Savage on the PCB task force. Specifically, Jim could contribute considerably because of his vast knowledge of PCB manufacturing and also his experience with the overall PCB picture. Accordingly, I would like to request the loan of Jim Savage to be the manufacturing representative for the PCB task force, plus the added assignment of being the overall group focal point. What I mean by this is that Jim would be utilized in assisting the chairman in coordinating the tech nical and business details that will be required to prepare the program. Length of the assignment will be 60-90 days. The charter of this task force will be to optimize Monsanto's position as relating to the government, our customers, and our long-term profit position. This will include the eval uation of various alternates. Initially, our thoughts are to have at least two plans. One would be an immediate phase-out plan to get us out of this business because of governmental and/or public pressures to protect overall Monsanto's business liability and image. There have been several plans already prepared for this eventuality and the task would be to finalize this plan by no later than December 15. The other plan would be a business plan to be conducted on a timetable that will insure maximum profitability for Monsanto. This plan we would hope to have finished by no later than February 1, 1976. Your cooperation in allowing us to take advantage of Jim Savage's background in the PCB area would not only be apprec iated by our business group, but I am sure would lead to a more successful conclusion to this program. if possible, we would like your decision by no later than November 17.
