Re: [SPAM] Re: Vice media inquiry: bug repellents
Hi Enesta,
In general, speaking with someone gives me, and other journalists, a better overall understanding of the topics we cover, and simply reading the information from the website doesn't offer all the information. I included questions in my first email. It would be great to have someone from the EPA contribute their knowledge. Any attributions would have to result from direct contact between me and the EPA expert.
Please let me know how we can move forward with setting up an interview with the right person at the EPA for Monday or Tuesday. Wednesday would work as well. Thank you so much in advance.

I will certainly see if an interview is possible. If it is not, can you please send over specific questions that the website does not address? And if you just need attribution, we can look into that too.

Thanks for the link. I'd still love to talk to someone at the EPA. Please let me know if anyone is free on Monday or Tuesday - my availability is the same as listed in my previous email. I look forward to scheduling something soon - thank you in advance for your help!
Best, Michelle

Hi Michelle,
This website should answer your questions: https://www.epa.gov/insect-repellents
Please let me know if you need more information.

Hi Dave,
I'm a reporter with Vice. I'm writing an article about insect repellents - how to use them safely,
side effects of using unregistered repellents, etc. I'd love to speak about this with an expert at
the EPA involved in regulating these repellents.
Below are some questions. Can you please help me get in contact and/or schedule an interview
with the right person at the EPA for Monday or Tuesday? I can be available any time at/after
1:30pm ET on both days.
Please let me know what works best - thank you so much!

1. What's the process like for evaluating and approving skin-applied insect repellents?
2. Which ingredients in repellents have been tested by the EPA, but not approved? Why were
they not approved?
3. What are some of the adverse reactions or side effects of using (certain) repellents
frequently?
4. What health risks do unregistered repellents pose to people?
5. How can people choose a repellent that is safe and effective?
